How to Remove a Product from the Shop Page and Search Results

Introduction

If you don’t want a product to appear in your Shop page or in search results, change its Catalog visibility to Hidden without actually deleting the product. This will prevent it from being shown on those pages, while retaining the product data so that records of past products can easily be researched.

However, to be sure the user will be unable to purchase it, you will also need to change its status to “Out of Stock.” This is because the user could still use a direct link to reach the product detail page, which they might get from a search engine.

Steps to Hide the Product from the Shop and Searches

  1. Log in to your website dashboard.
  2. In the left menu, click:
    • Products → All Products
  3. Find the product you want to hide.
    • Hover over the product name. (The product-related menu will appear.)
    • Click Edit.
  4. On the right-hand side of the page, look for the Publish box.
  5. Just over half-way down in that box, find Catalog visibility. (It will probably say “Shop and search results,” which is the default when a product is initially added.)
  6. Click Edit (next to–or just below–Catalog visibility).
  7. Click Hidden.
  8. Click OK. (You may need to scroll down a bit to see it.)
  9. Click the blue Update button (top right of the page; you may need to scroll up to find it).

If you ever need to make the product visible again, simply change the Catalog visibility back to “Shop and search results.”

Remember to Mark it Out of Stock

Usually, if you are hiding it, you also want to make the product unable to be ordered. Learn how to mark it “Out of Stock.”
