How to Mark a Product “Out of Stock” and Show “Sold Out” Banner


Introduction

When a product’s inventory status is set to “Out of Stock“, our WooCommerce customized website automatically displays a “Sold Out” banner over the product image on the Shop page and prevents customers from purchasing it. Also on the Shop page, it changes the product’s “Add to Cart” button to “Read more.” If the user clicks “Read more,” they are taken to the page for the product details, where they will see “Out of stock” below the price instead of the “Add to Cart” button.

If you do not want to show an item on the Shop page at all, see the instructions for removing items from the Shop page.

Steps to Mark “Out of Stock” (“Sold Out”)

  1. Log in to the website and click “Showa Farm” in the dark bar at the very top of the screen to go to the dashboard.
  2. In the left menu, click:
    • Products → All Products
  3. Find the product you want to mark as out of stock.
    • Hover your mouse over the product name. This will cause a small menu to appear below the product title.
    • Click Edit.
  4. Scroll down to the Product data section (usually below the main description).
  5. Click the Inventory tab (under “Product data” just below “General“).
  6. To the right of “Stock Status,” click on the radio button just left of “Out of stock” to mark it.
  7. Click the blue Update button (top right of the page).
  8. Open the Shop page on the front end (or refresh it if it’s already open).
  9. Check that the item now correctly shows the “Sold Out” banner.
